Three weeks ago when we had the idea to put on a garden play, we knew that pulling it off under the "conditions" would be a hard task. But after numerous rainy rehearsals, zoom production meetings and costume trips to the Oxfam superstore we have grown increasingly excited by the fact that this play will not only be possible (itself a minor miracle), but that it may also be good! None of this would have happened without the hard work of some key people. First of all, we'd like to thank the Master for her continuous and steadfast support for the project throughout. Likewise, to John Livesey for his wise advice. We could not have asked for better Co-Producers than Felix Westcott and Matthew Antrobus. Felix has somehow managed to lead the funding and budgeting of the play in the same week as his Finals, and Matt tackled with ease the gargantuan task of navigating all the COVID precautions and risk assessments throughout. The entire cast and crew have been hugely creative, dedicated and talented from the start, and we hope tonight's performances speaks to all of their ability. In particular we have to acknowledge Rohan for giving up so much time over the last few weeks and for somehow learning all of those lines in a week. Finally, we must thank the JCR for their generous funding of the production.
Joseph K

St Peter's College Garden Play 3-5 June 2021
a note from the directors (Darcy Dixon and Ed Hodgson)
A darkly comic stage adaptation of The Trial, relocating Kafka's classic novel to twenty-first-century London. On his thirtieth birthday, Joseph K has his sushi delivery intercepted by two unidentified men who inform him he is under arrest. Soon, he's lost all his Boots Card points and a strange man starts following him to his office. He has no idea what he's done wrong but he's determined to clear his name. As he tries to make sense of his situation and to confront those who threaten his freedom, Joseph is thrown headlong into a fight against an invisible and illogical law.
This performance was produced following strict COVID-19 precautions. All rehearsals and production meetings were held online where possible, and where necessary in-person rehearsals were held outside and socially distant. Until this week, each rehearsal involved no more than six people. The play has been lightly edited to reduce the risk of transmission, including removing any scenes where social distancing is not possible, and removing any props that may need to be passed between characters. Actors and crew members took two lateral flow tests each week. For any questions about any of this, please contact our COVID-19 officer, Matthew Antrobus.
